Our Southern Roots
Indian River Camp 47
Welcome, friends! Weʼre passionate about preserving Southern heritage and Civil War history. We’re and active group of individuals who meet monthly for dinner, fellowship and guest speakers on topics concerning both Northern and Southern history from the War Between the States time period. Learn about the battles, flags, railroads, naval activities, heroes and interesting facts that went on during the war.
Dive into the past with us and uncover the stories that make us who we are today!
Some of what we’re involved in.
Living histories
Come join us to educate the public about the life of soldiers and people of the time period. We set up at various historical locations around Brevard County and yearly at the Cracker Christmas event at Ft. Christmas Park in east Orange County.
Parades
We often participate in local Brevard County parades such as July 4th, Veterans Day and Christmas Parades.
Community Dedications & Events
Each year we participate in various civic events such as those honoring all veterans, museum displays, and a cemetery motorcade to honor those Civil War veterans that are buried in Brevard County cemeteries.
Teaching History & Honoring our Ancestors
Southern Bells are welcome too!
Two of our camp members display items of interest to ladies showing various historical clothing, sewing items as well as other day to day items used in Southern households at the Sams House historical center in Merritt Island, Florida.
Merritt Island July 4th parade 2023
Members of our camp participated in the 2023 July 4th parade.
Salute to the Confederate Veterans buried at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Merritt Island, Florida. Every April we join a motorcade that travel to various old cemeteries in North Brevard to honor those buried there.
